Business Analysts and Users Can Now Easily Explore Streaming Data by Building Visualizations on Confluent’s KSQL with New Downloadable Software

SAN MATEO, Calif. — April 23, 2018 — Arcadia Data, provider of the first visual analytics and BI software native to big data, today announced the general availability of Arcadia Instant for KSQL. As the industry’s first native Apache Kafka® visualization software, Arcadia Instant helps get users up and running quickly to visually explore streaming data in real-time. Easily installed on any desktop, the software enables developers and analysts alike to easily visualize data streaming through Apache Kafka® topics. Arcadia Instant for KSQL can connect to Confluent Platform 4.1 and is available as a complimentary download on the Arcadia Data website.

The demand for event-stream processing and analytics is growing rapidly as organizations are looking for the best ways to integrate streaming data with historical data, provide intelligence to business processes and decisions, and to gain competitive advantage. As technology analyst and research firm Gartner finds, “Event stream processing is becoming a major part of business analytics. To get information from sensor data, web clickstreams, geolocation data, weather reports, market data, social media and other event streams, data and analytics leaders must employ three specific application styles.”

Whether in real-time, automated applications, or with on-demand applications which require human decision making, businesses have been limited in their adoption of streaming technologies by the coding-heavy environments that dominate industry offerings. These environments often take time to deliver results, diminishing the data agility that businesses seek today. Arcadia Data collaborated closely with Confluent to deeply integrate the streaming SQL architecture with Arcadia Instant. This leverages the native architecture to support a push-based query model. Such integration is not possible with non-native BI software that is limited by JDBC- and ODBC-based connectivity.

“The promise of streaming data is a game changer and is generating plenty of excitement, but today that information is the purview of engineers,” said Priyank Patel, co-founder and chief product officer, Arcadia Data. “The software we released today makes creating visualizations on streaming data a simple drag-and-drop task for business users. In doing so it makes real-time insight actionable to anyone in the organization. We are committed to industry-leading innovation, and as evidenced by this release, will continue to raise the bar for delivering business value for big data.”

Arcadia Instant for KSQL opens new opportunities for users to gain valuable real-time insights from streaming environments. Arcadia Data makes it easy for business users to get started right away, ensuring visualizations on Apache Kafka® no longer require significant development effort.

“Data is produced continually, and the ability to act on that data in a timely manner gives businesses a competitive edge,” said Sid Rabindran, director, partner ecosystem at Confluent. “The partnership with Arcadia Data offers users visualizations with KSQL, making streaming data even more accessible.”

Arcadia Data also announced additional capabilities for analyzing streaming data as part of an upcoming product release. These capabilities extend the company’s lead in visualizations on Apache Kafka® and include:

  • Support for complex data types, allowing users to read almost any type of data stored in Apache Kafka® right from the stream. This includes MAP and ARRAY data types that are common in JSON and Avro file formats.
  • Time Warp, which provides a new granular view of data based on time, allowing users to easily view different time windows of data in the stream to:
    • Easily see what happened in the recent past that they might have missed.
    • Compare past trends/patterns against current trends and patterns.
    • Replay or pause at various points in time.
